Not sure what you're trying to do here: 'Downloading' an app to the SD card will put an .APK file in a folder on the card without installing it; on the other hand, it sounds like you're trying to INSTALL the app to the SD card, which means either using an app like 'Move to SD' to put the installed app on the SD card (freeing up internal storage); if you have Gingerbread (Android 2.3.x) or higher, you don't need an additional app; it's as easy as going to Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> On SD Card -> tap any app that isn't checked -> tap Move to USB Storage (sic) (Some apps can't be run except from main storage, such as Google's Apps, which reside in protected storage).
